This year’s applications will be reviewed by a panel of 60+ artists, academics, gallerists, curators, critics, professors and other arts professionals from around the country along with ACRE’s volunteer network, partner galleries, and curatorial fellows. The large size of the panel is due in part to the overwhelming number of applications we receive each year, in order to ensure all applications are reviewed by at least 15 panelists whose expertise and bias varies. As the residency acts as a temporary community, and the organization itself is a cooperative community, we aim for a democratic process that includes all those who invest their time and energy in ACRE’s mission.
The admissions process is randomized so that no two reviewers see applications in the same order and designed to ensure all applications are viewed by the same number of reviewers. Scores are averaged and a second round of review determines the final results.
