As an ACRE exhibition partner, The Perch is pleased to present the work of Chicago-based artist and 2013 ACRE Resident Lindsey French. French’s work, which is motivated by a “respectful collaboration with the natural world,” uses data-analysis technologies to pull language from thoughtful cross-sections of her surrounding environment. “Attempting impossible conversations,” French produces texts and scores by running character-recognition softwares over photographs of landscape, or on sound files recorded in the company of plants.
As a hybrid domestic and working space, The Perch took on an intriguing character forFrench, who looked to 19th century chemist and environmentalist Ellen Swallow Richards’ hybrid model of a home-economics and ecology as a source of inspiration. French’s 2015 ACRE Exhibition at The Perch takes the form of interventions and superimpositions, produced during weekly on-site research sessions over the last year.
