Driving through the middle of the country where the land is vast, Chloe and I noticed windsocks outside plants of an unspecified nature. She pointed one out. I had never paid attention before.
Like the dismembered nose of an anteater or an elephant. A long, orange snout hangs from a pole above the ground and sniffs out the landscape.
Evidence of environmental conditions. A live feed of windsock body parts dancing in the wind, dancing on screens.
On YouTube there are videos of inflatable airmen outside used car lots twerking to Sage the Gemini’s “Gas Pedal” and Migos’ “Hannah Montana.”
Determined by their surroundings, these gestures enter the gallery, becoming considered, flattened, framed and mediated. The inanimate human skin (it is just a skin) is filled, intermittently, with the wind’s inclinations.
The bright red-orange streamers clearly indicated the intensity and direction of the wind and allowed the man to guide his RC helicopter easily.
A windsock is like a telescope––a mechanical device used to enhance the given abilities of the human body to observe a phenomenon. The anthropomorphic orange creations are sensate tools for reading our orientation among shifting parameters, and it is the screen with which we witness this bodily play.
Flying with a tail wind is like walking on a moving sidewalk
