D Rosen: Elemental Impressions of Interspecies Care, of Violence
D Rosen hosts a tea and critical animal studies reading group to mark the closing of their exhibition, Elemental Impressions of Interspecies Care, of Violence.
Join Rosen in a collective reading of excerpts from relevant texts; printed copies will be available so that everyone can follow along.
Reading a collage of texts not immediately apparent but absolutely relevant to critical animal studies is a way of situating terms that inform or ground the work. For example, the term “domestication” will be contextualized by excerpts from Ghassan Hage’s book Is Racism an Environmental Threat? and the term “matter” will be defined by Heather Davis' Plastic Matter. These two terms will be joined together by Sara Ahmed's What's the Use? among more.
Anyone who would like to bring an excerpt to share at the end of the program is welcome to do so. Please bring a few printed copies of your selected excerpt for accessibility. For those who prefer to listen rather than read, quietness is also a welcome way to be present. Thank you!
