Nothing Can Surpass

Danny Floyd is an artist, researcher, and educator based out of Chicago. He holds a BFA in Photography from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), an MA in Visual and Critical Studies, and an MFA in Sculpture both from School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). His work deals with the social aspects of sensory phenomena with an emphasis on text and its potentials. Studio projects investigate how the built and natural environments create space for interaction and contemplation as well as the similarities between structural phenomena like language and architecture. Research projects interrogate how politics blend with perceptual realms like weather, music, architecture, and mediated cultures. 

Danny currently teaches in the Visual and Critical Studies and Sculpture departments at SAIC. He founded Ballroom Projects, an artist-run space in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood, which he ran for four years. He currently co-directs another independent gallery called Adler & Floyd. He has held curatorial residencies Chicago Artists Coalition with Artists' Cooperative Residency and Exhibitions (ACRE), where he is now Exhibitions Director. He was also awarded the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation Curatorial Fellowship in 2017. 

BasketShop is dedicated to following the trend of a creative generation that relocates themselves to the bread basket of society. In the divided state of affairs we have found ourselves in collectively, our response is to invoke the notion of weaving as a model for harmonious interactions. We are focused on bringing communities together in order to create a vessel that is constructed and defined by disparate points of view. Basketry is among the first forms of craft that served humanity as both art and function through design. Our goal is to externalize the structure of artistic process so that it can be accessible to everyone.
